Our many awards for our own and local produce have recognised the amount of crops that we grow on the farm, both for PYO and for sale through the shop.
We strongly believe that buying directly from the producer benefits everybody:
- The customer gets the freshest produce with the best flavour
- There is reduced impact on the environment as transport pollution and packaging are minimised
- The producer and local community benefit from keeping trade in a thriving, local economy.
The difference in flavour between a freshly picked strawberry or sweetcorn cob for example, and one a few days old has to be experienced to be fully appreciated. Also, because we know our produce will be sold and eaten quickly we can grow varieties with the best flavour rather than the longest shelf life.
Some of our homegrown crops we grow are not always available for the PYO. These include onions, leeks, sprouts and Christmas trees. When in season these are available to buy from our farm shop.
