Sustainable Farming Practices
We prioritise environmentally friendly farming methods that preserve natural resources, maintain soil health, and promote biodiversity. Our practices are designed to ensure the long-term viability of the land for future generations.
Animal Welfare
Our livestock are raised in free-range environments, allowing them to express natural behaviours. We avoid routine antibiotic use, focusing instead on preventive care and natural health management to ensure the well-being of our animals.
Local and Seasonal Produce
We grow a variety of fruits and vegetables on-site, offering produce that is fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced. This approach supports the local economy and reduces the environmental impact associated with long-distance transportation.
Community Engagement
Essington Farm is deeply rooted in the local community. We engage with our neighbours through events that promote awareness of sustainable agriculture and healthy eating. We’re proud to employ over 70 local staff, supporting our community and reducing environmental impact—every purchase helps grow the local economy.

Farming with the Future in Mind
At Essington Farm, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do—from how we raise our animals to how we package our produce. As a family-run farm, we understand the importance of protecting the land for future generations, and we’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint every step of the way.
Grass-Fed Livestock: Part of the Solution
We believe that grass-fed livestock play a vital role in sustainable farming. Backed by the Sustainable Food Trust, grassland is recognised as a natural carbon sink, and grazing animals help convert this into high-quality, nutrient-rich protein. Rather than contributing to the problem, well-managed grazing is part of the solution to reducing carbon emissions.
Keeping Food Miles Low
We grow a wide selection of seasonal fruit and vegetables right here on our farm. When certain items are out of season, we source as locally as possible to ensure freshness and traceability—while keeping food miles and emissions to a minimum.
By choosing local produce from Essington Farm, you’re cutting down on the carbon footprint and supporting a more sustainable food system. We also offer a variety of locally made products—including juices, honey, crisps, and preserves—all chosen with care for quality and sustainability.
Responsible Packaging
Reducing packaging waste is a priority for us. We’ve replaced plastic bags with compostable and biodegradable alternatives wherever possible and introduced cardboard and compostable punnets for our fresh fruit.
To further cut down waste, we’ve introduced zero-waste scales in our farm shop, allowing customers to bring their own containers for loose produce. We also encourage reusables at our butchery and deli counters—just bring your containers and we’ll happily fill them.
Generating Our Own Renewable Energy
Sustainability isn’t just about food. We’ve installed solar panels on our roof, generating over 50,000 kWh of renewable energy each year. This clean energy powers our farm shop and restaurant, helping us reduce reliance on non-renewable sources.
Our Commitment to Continuous Improvement
Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. As we grow and learn, we continue to review and improve our environmental policies—trialling new ideas, reducing waste, and staying committed to ethical, responsible farming.
